Marissa Castro Mikoy, Executive Director
Marissa Castro Mikoy comes to After-School All-Stars North Texas as the Executive Director with over 20 years of professional experience in the education and non-profit sector. Prior to joining the ASAS team, Marissa worked with the nonprofit, Dallas Afterschool where she was focused on building and implementing continuous quality improvement systems within the Dallas out of school time community. She moved back to her home state of Texas in 2011, from Washington DC, where she worked with the DC Public Charter School Board. Marissa was charged with providing academic and operational performance oversight to DC charter schools as well as providing early childhood technical support. Marissa was instrumental in leading a city wide Task Force of DC charter schools in the development of an Early Childhood Performance Management Framework that is being used to assess DC public charter schools using common goals and metrics.
Marissa’s work experience includes directing and leading early childhood programs with several grassroots nonprofits, as well as working with national nonprofits in fundraising and community organizing. Marissa has worked on early childhood and education policy issues at the local and national level, is passionate about increasing the level of quality of education in under-resourced communities. In 2012, Marissa was honored at the White House by President Obama’s Administration as a “Champion of Change” for her work in AmeriCorps and career dedication to social justice and education. She is a graduate of St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, where she earned a degree in Business Administration and Management and holds a Nonprofit Executive Leadership Certificate from Georgetown University. Marissa lives in Dallas with her husband and two sons, Xavier and Sebastian.
Tori Schwarzlose, Program Manager
Tori began working with the After-School All-Stars North Texas team in August 2015 and now serves as the Program Manager. Prior to joining ASAS, Tori was a Quality Advisor for Dallas Afterschool where she partnered with afterschool programs to develop more effective, high-quality programming for participants.
Tori attended Texas A&M University and has her Master’s degree in Youth Development. In her spare time, Tori is a volleyball coach for a travelling club team of 12 year olds. Tori is passionate about the mission of ASAS and is excited to use her previous experiences to lead the North Texas program team!
Justin Hensley, Program Manager
Justin Hensley joins After-School All-Stars North Texas with fifteen years’ experience working in higher education and twelve years’ experience in after school. Justin previously served as a director at Dallas Afterschool where he created and designed curriculum and trainings to strengthen the quality of after school programs in Dallas and beyond. Prior to Dallas Afterschool, Justin worked seven years at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas beginning as a part time activity leader, leading as a Branch Director, and finishing his last four years as an Area Manager overseeing eight sites across the metroplex. He is also beginning his fourteenth year as an ad junct professor at Mountain View College. Justin, his wife, Jennifer, and their unruly pack of dogs are proud residents of far East Dallas.
Justin is beyond grateful for the opportunity to continue his life’s dedication of impacting the lives of Dallas youth with the passionate, amazing team at After-School All-Stars North Texas.
Lizzie Arington, Development & Marketing Manager
Lizzie joined the ASAS North Texas team in July 2015. She graduated from Miami University with her B.S in Family Studies and a minor in Entrepreneurship. As the Development & Marketing Manager of the North Texas Chapter, Lizzie’s roles include working closely with the Executive Director to raise funds and awareness by cultivating new corporate, foundation, and individual relationships, organizing fundraising events, and helping to implement the overall marketing strategy for the chapter.
Prior to joining ASAS, Lizzie worked as Assistant Program Director at The Salvation Army in Southwest Ohio. Lizzie is extremely excited to be part of the After-School All-Stars team. She is dedicated to seeing all youth unlock their potential and have an equal opportunity at success.
Connie Tam, Operations Coordinator
Connie started with After-School All-Stars North Texas in September 2016 as Operations Coordinator. She is responsible for supporting the team in areas of human resources, finance, and office management.
Connie graduated from Penn State University majoring in Psychology, Business Option with a minor in Labor and Employment Relations. Being a Texas resident since 2005, she is excited to be back in Dallas working with ASAS and seeing the students grow through the program!
Paige Doyle, Fundraising & Staff Assistant
Paige joined the After-School All-Stars North Texas team in August 2017 as the Fundraising and Staff Assistant. She supports ASAS corporate, foundation, and individual fundraising efforts, and helps execute the chapter’s marketing strategy.
Paige graduated from the University of Iowa with a major in Cinema Studies and a Certificate in Writing. She was first introduced to nonprofit fundraising at Iowa where she assisted development efforts at the Iowa City Public Library. A native of North Texas, she is excited to use her experience to enrich lives in her home community.
Jamall Houston, Site Coordinator
Jamall joined After-School All-Stars North Texas in January 2017 as the Site Coordinator for E.H. Cary Middle School. He graduated from Midwestern State University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Mass Communication. He has worked with youth in after-school programs for eight years and is excited to be able to continue at After-School All-Stars North Texas.
Sara Salazar, Site Coordinator
Sara was born and raised in the Texas Panhandle before moving to the DFW area in 2010 to attend the University of North Texas and study Development and Family Studies. Sara has been passionate about youth development since 2010, serving as a mentor with Communities in Schools as well as involvement with the Ronald McDonald House charity through her sorority. Sara started out with After-School All-Stars as a Program Leader in September 2017 and took on the position of Site Coordinator of E.D. Walker Middle School in July 2018. She is very excited to continue her growth and development with such a passionate and driven organization that empowers youth. In her spare time, Sara enjoys fitness and motivating others to make a healthy lifestyle change, as well as spending time with her husband David and pitbull Harvey.
Autumn Graves, Site Coordinator
Autumn Graves came to After-School All-Stars in August of 2017 to kick off the school year at Marsh Middle School. She graduated from the University of North Texas in 2016 with a degree in International Development and Humanitarian Affairs. She has served three AmeriCorps terms in the Dallas area working with youth and is so excited to continue pouring into the students of this city. In her free time, she enjoys learning and sharing peoples’ stories and making music. She’s excited to start this new adventure and meet new people along the way.
Marva Robinson, Site Coordinator
Marva A. Robinson started out with ASAS in January of 2016 as the Site Coordinator of Life Charter School Oak Cliff. With a brief stint away from ASAS she came back to the career she loves with full force in January of 2017. As one of the Site Coordinators for After School All Stars North Texas she is responsible for the daily operation of the program at the school site, including, but not limited to, personnel, activities, and general program operation.
She is a graduate of Talladega College, Talladega Alabama with a major in History and a minor in Communications. Prior to joining ASAS Marva, worked as a Social Studies Teacher in Houston ISD as well as in her home state of Illinois. In her spare time Marva enjoys reading non-fiction literature and watching documentaries. She is also an avid sports fan of any of Chicago’s major professional sports team. Volunteering throughout the DFW is also an immense part of her life, she is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., in which she has previously served as the Community and Partnership Chair for the local North Texas Chapter in this capacity she was able to volunteer throughout the North Texas region as well as on the state and national level. She has a strong conviction, that a person should give not because they have so much but they may know how it feels to have so little. She has a dedication for youth and believes her position at ASAS isn’t truly work but a passion because she is doing what she loves.
Marva has lived in Texas since 2002, and has one son Bryan King II.
Xilebel Tadesse, Site Coordinator
Xilebel Tadesse, born and raised in Miami, Florida, has been passionate about working with children and youth since her high school years. Excited and ready to continue working with kids, Xilebel moved to Dallas from Atlanta, where she graduated from Emory University with an Education Studies major. Shortly after, in September of 2016, she joined the ASAS team as the Site Coordinator of Hector P. Garcia Middle School. Xilebel enjoys being able to directly focus on the holistic health and growth of her brilliant students with this position. She is passionate about building relationships with students and families, as she learns their life stories. Her faith, love for people, and lifestyle of service drive her to #doitforthekids. On the side, she enjoys to cook, bake, and spend time with people, especially her husband, Yonathan.
